Have you ever sat by a river on a warm summer day and watched as the current gently carried a leaf down stream? Perhaps you returned on a cold, windy day to find that this same river had dramatically changed. Reflecting the grey sky above and the depths below, the river had darkened, and strong currents had created ominous waves that pounded the shore with great force.

The changing currents of life affect us all. At times, life currents are gentle and refreshing, like a calm river, inviting us to play, laugh, and love. Life seems effortless and good. At other times, with little or no warning, life currents intensify in response to strong winds and surging waters; events or experiences that seem to overwhelm our ways of coping.
